FAQs

  • Who can apply for a scholarship?

    Students who are U.S. Citizens majoring in mechanical, electrical, nuclear or chemical engineering; physics; or precision machining. The Foundation does not fund graduate work.

  • What college or universities are accepted?

    Most accredited U.S. colleges and universities are accepted.

  • When do I have to have the application submitted?

    Your application and your completed Mechanical Test must be submitted by February 15th.   The entire application package must be completed by March 14th.

  • How do I take the Mechanical Test?

    The Mechanical Test is proctored by the school you are attending or by previous arrangements made with The Dearborn Foundation.

  • When will I know whether or not I have received a scholarship?

    Students are notified by letter from the Directors by the end of May.

  • What happens after I receive a scholarship notification?

    Included in your acceptance letter is a “Letter of Understanding” that needs to be signed and returned to the Foundation. You must also send us a current photo of yourself, your college ID# and the school address and department to which we send the check. We will not issue scholarship payments without these four items.

  • Can I apply annually for a renewal scholarship?

    Yes, if you maintain a 3.0 GPA and continue to pursue a degree in an approved engineering major or precision machining degree.

  • How do I complete the application?
