The Dearborn Foundation Scholarship Requirements

Pursue your dream in engineering or precision machining with a scholarship offered by The Dearborn Foundation. We are looking for outstanding students who demonstrate the mindset and vision to drive innovation in these vital fields.

Before applying, it’s essential to ensure you meet The Dearborn Foundation scholarship requirements—our program is designed for those with the potential to turn bold ideas into reality.

Read Before You Fill Out Your Application

We welcome innovative individuals with a science background who can think creatively about unique solutions. However, we DO NOT accept applications from:

  • Students Who are Not U.S. Citizens
  • Students with a GPA Under 3.0
  • Students Who are Not Full-time
  • Students Majoring in Computer Programming
  • Students Majoring in Civil Engineering

Scholarship Application Steps

The initial application form and Mechanical Aptitude Test MUST be completed by February 1st. You should allow two weeks to schedule your Mechanical Aptitude Test. Please follow the steps below:

Each year, the applications will be reviewed starting mid-August until the February 1st deadline.

2. Take the Mechanical Aptitude Test

  • The Mechanical Aptitude Test cannot be taken online. We will send the test to a proctor to monitor your test. If your school does not have a proctor, please contact us.
  • You cannot study for this test and may not look at references or use a calculator while taking the test. It is designed to assess your basic abilities to comprehend fundamental mechanical concepts, rather than test your acquired knowledge.
  • The test is multiple-choice and includes additional written explanations for some answers. Written explanations are just as important as your multiple-choice answers. Please ensure that your handwriting is legible so our Selection Committee can read your writing.

With your success on the Mechanical Aptitude Test, the following additional information is needed before your complete application is forwarded to the Scholarship Committee:

  • Completion of this form.
  • Official school transcript
  • Recommendation from Faculty Member
  • Completion of WOWI Assessment

Have a faculty member email a recommendation or send us a written one at our mailing address.

5. Complete the WOWI Career Assessment Survey

  • Registration for the WOWI survey will be provided after passing the initial screening by the Selection Committee. The WOWI is an important part of the Committee’s final decision.
  • The survey will help evaluate your abilities and interests for the scholarship.
  • Ensure you answer all questions for a complete picture of your strengths.
  • The WOWI survey can be taken over multiple sessions.
  • You do not need to send results—we will access them directly.
